This is to explore the possible existence of a novel cellular mechanism that specifically detects and removes misfolded, neurotoxic proteins. If successful, this work could lead to new ways of enhancing the cell’s ability to detect and degrade such misfolded proteins, which may have important implications for the prevention and treatment of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Huntington’s.
